DFO Central and Arctic Region office required design and implementation of a custom GIS system to assist with the management, administration, and monitoring of arctic fisheries resources and fish habitat in the NWT. Work involved performing an infrastructure review of existing GIS resources, data acquisition, compilation, programming and customization, digital data conversion, GIS training for staff and system documentation. The system allows staff to view, query, compose maps, and calculate distances and surface areas of impacted rivers and lakes related to proposed developments.
